Audio Description of Norman Rockwell
Audio Description of a Painting
You’re a curatorial intern at a local art museum. Currently, the museum is pushing to make its exhibits more accessible to guests with visual impairments. Part of this initiative is the development of an audio tour filled with descriptions of various pieces of art in the museum. Your boss has asked you to write these audio descriptions. The descriptions will eventually be used as a script for the narrator, so it’s important that your description is concise, descriptive, and easy to follow.
Norman Rockwell – American Gothic Painting
Norman Rockwell’s ‘American Gothic’ is a 1930 painting that depicts two main protagonists – an elderly man donning a black coat and a denim apron with a pitchfork in his right hand. On his left stands a shorter middle-aged woman with her hair held back in a sublime ponytail. The elderly man’s face is contoured with the effect of time, which makes it evident to the viewer that the man’s age is advancing. Behind the two is a white farmhouse that can be likened to a barn. Not much detail of the house is revealed in the painting. However, some similarities feature between the painting’s subjects and the house behind them. For example, the pitchfork is held upright to rhyme with the vertical wood style used on the house. In the appreciation of the painting, the artist uses the color white, contrasting it with other dull colors such as black, brown, and a mixture of earth colors to reveal the simplistic nature of American rural life.
Holding a pitchfork is an old-gothic style appeal the painter uses to reveal the theatrics existing in the period after 1930. From the male subject’s face, the man seems to be part of the gothic movement. According to Lukic, an author of an American horror genre, the woman’s face is sulky. Here, the eye wonders make us think about what she’s looking at. Rockwell uses the grim faces of the subjects to depict a horror that might have happened at the house behind them. The male subject of the painting seems to be in control of the entire painting’s mood, with the younger female subject seemingly scared of what the white house behind them might be hiding. In all imagination, Norman Rockwell’s painting accurately evokes the horrors following the Great Depression, giving a lifeline of thought on what might have been happening behind the white house.

Comparing and Contrasting Venues for Company’s Annual Holiday Party

Dear Robinson,
Re: Venues for the Company’s Annual Holiday Party
As you are aware, the company is making plans to ensure the upcoming annual holiday party is a great success. I take great pleasure in presenting my thorough evaluation of three Kansas City-area locations to determine the best location for the event.
Ferns & Flowers Banquet Hall will cost the company $1,000 on weeknights and $3,000 on weekends. Other fees include a $30-per-person buffet and a $300 bartender’s fee. Therefore, organizing a 300-person party will cost the company $12,500 and $10,500 on a weekend and weeknights respectively. Ferns & Flowers Banquet Hall offers free parking lots, a significant plus for people with cars. Chateau Bleu Cost will cost the company $17,300, which includes $56 per person catering fee and a $500 bartender fee. Customers will also pay $10 and $15 for weekday and weekend parking, respectively. The Classic Ballroom charges $2,000 for an evening, $400 bartender fee, and $40 per person for the buffet for a total outlay of $14,400. Parking fees at the facility are $20 for weekdays and $25 on weekends.
The buffet-style hot cuisine and hors d’oeuvres are available at all three locations. Water, coffee, and iced tea are all available in all the venues. Despite its low price, customers gave the food a “very tasty” to “mediocre” rating. Customers have praised Chateau Bleu for its “very good” food and “restricted” menu options. The limited buffet is not ideal for a 300-person party, but the company can make prearrangements with Chateau Bleu to address the issue. Classic Ballroom buffet options are expansive, but special diets are “very limited” according to one online reviewer.
One can drive or walk to all three locations, but with varying levels of ease. Ferns & Flowers Banquet Hall is just a 15-minute walk from the office. It is possible, however, that clients who reside outside of the city will be unable to get to the location easily. The Chateau Bleu Cost is only three blocks from the Country Club Plaza, and the surrounding area’s excellent public transportation system makes getting about very simple. The location and comfort of this establishment were described as “excellent” by one online reviewer. The Classic Ballroom is in the center of the city’s Power & Light neighborhood of Kansas City. During the weekends, this site can be a nuisance for partygoers due to difficulties in getting in and out of the place.
Ambiance is critical for a successful party. According to a post published in the BB Blanc blog site, “creating the right atmosphere at events is an important aspect of event planning and coordination” (par. 1). In spite of its nice personnel and constant occupancy, Ferns & Flowers Banquet Hall lacks any aesthetically pleasing characteristics. In the words of one online critic, the place “looks dumpy on the outside and isn’t much better”. The Chateau Bleu, in contrast, has plenty of room for a large group. Even if there is a hefty parking fee, patrons can still enjoy the beautiful surroundings and the exceptional service from the staff. In contrast, the Ball Room’s average ambiance is underscored by its poor layout. No one can to a party only to walk for long distances to access a washroom.
Since it is centrally located, provides excellent food, and can accommodate more than 300 guests, Chateau Bleu is the ideal location for the annual holiday celebration. Customers and employees can easily enjoy the atmosphere. In spite of the fact that it will cost $17,500, Chateau Bleu provides partygoers with an experience that cannot be matched by the two other, less expensive options.
Sincerely
